HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- More than a year after a man was killed in a Waller-area hit-and-run, the Harris County Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help on information that could lead to an arrest.
According to HCSO, the incident happened in the 29000 block of Old Washington Road in 2025 -- either on the night of May 23 or early the next day.
Deputies said that's where 78-year-old Jerald Wayne Skaines was walking, near the center of the westbound lane, when he failed to yield the right of way to traffic and was hit by a driver.
The driver reportedly skidded to a stop about 100 yards from the scene, then took off without helping the victim.
Waller County first responders found the victim with no signs of life, the sheriff's office said.
In a social media post on Wednesday, HCSO said the vehicle of interest is a 1994 to 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck.
Anyone with information about the hit-and-run is urged to call HCSO at 713-221-6000 or Crime Stoppers of Houston at 713-222-8477.
